Yoga Poses For Plantar Fasciitis Relief!

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. If you are experiencing this condition, please consult your doctor before trying these yoga poses for plantar fasciitis relief.

What’s Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick, fibrous connective tissue that runs from the heel bone to the ball of the foot.

The Plantar Fascia is a strong ligament that typically works to absorb shock and support your foot arch during movement. It also contributes to the body’s gait and distribution of weight.

If the plantar fascia is overused or injured, it can become inflamed leading to what’s known as plantar fasciitis. Plantar Fasciitis is often described as a stabbing or burning sensation in the heel or bottom of your foot.

Causes

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, plantar fasciitis usually doesn’t have one definitive cause. However, some things  can make you more susceptible to experience this condition:

  • Tight calf muscles, which can make it hard for you to flex your foot
  • Being overweight, which can amplify the everyday shocks of moving
  • Very high arches since the fascia are under extra tension
  • Repetitive impact activity like running, hiking, and/or other sports
  • Age can be a factor as well ( 40-60 years of age)
  • Shoes that provide inadequate support
  • Increased exercise intensity and/or volume
  • Active jobs that require hours of walking or standing on hard surfaces.
